Chimney

Did I ever mention in the moment that I saw her that I knew someday I'd look in her eyes
I-G-N-O-R-A-N-C-E Somehow
I thought it might die with

Tam
take a man, take a man to the woods
Tam take a man
to the woods
Dance on the rim, on the rim of a can
Dance on the rim of a wire-rimmed can

Did I ever mention in the moment that I saw her that I knew someday I'd look in her eyes
I-D-E-N-T-I-T-Y
I left my real self behind with

Tam's
on the lam in the amazon woods
Tam's on the lam
in the woods
Run to the man with the ball in his hands
Run to the man with the ball shaped hands

Did I ever mention in the moment that I saw her that I knew someday I'd look in her eyes
(Did I ever mention to you)
I-N-T-R-O-R-S-E
(someday I would see right through you)
I knew just what I would see in

Tam
Where's Amanda? Is she in the woods?
Tam, is Amanda
in the woods?
Laugh by the fire 'til the fire is out
Laugh, sitting by my laughing fire

With your disappearing acts
And your disappearing Luke
And your disappearing Matthew, Mark, and John
Do you think you'll find the woods
when you walk across this bridge?
First she's here, then she ain't
She's gone.

Did I ever mention in the moment that I saw her that I knew someday I'd look in her eyes
I-N-T-R-O-V-E-R-T
It's what I was before Tam said to me, she said

Boy,
be a man, be a man in the woods
Boy, be a man
in the woods
Walk on the rim, on the rim of a can
Walk on the rim of a wire rimmed can.

Tam
take a man, take a man to the woods
(Did I ever mention to you)
Tam take a man
to the woods
(Did I ever mention to you)
Dance on the rim, on the rim of a can
(My plan for loving Tam?)
Dance on the rim of a wire-rimmed can

Bastards always seem to be the kind of guys you almost like
until they take you up to their place
And then you realize they're living in

All I ever notice is the people who annoy me
are undoubtedly the ones that I hate
Undoubtedly as worthless as me
but I sincerely hope that no one ever catches on

My Tiny Bride

When the wind beats on the tiny trees
and the sun shines on the tiny fields
and the sounds of tiny bird and beasts
reach my tiny ears
La da da da
da da da da da

Well I met her on a cloudy day
She was wearing some stolen shoes
so I took her off to jail and turned her in for the reward
La da da da
da da da da da

From stolen shoes
To singin' in the rain
I'll never forget my tiny bride

She was tiny, such a tiny girl
Only ten feet tall when she was eight
and she sang in a voice that only dogs and dolphins heard
La da da da
da da da da da

Well she loved me like a lover would
Didn't kill me like a killer would
When she asked me for some peace I utterly misunderstood
La da da da
da da da da da

From stolen shoes
To singin' in the rain
I'll always remember my tiny bride

When she came back from her prison cell
Looking fine and looking good
And she asked me out to lunch but I politely turned her down
La da da da
da da da da da

When the wind beats on the tiny trees
and the sun shines on the tiny fields
and the sounds of tiny bird and beasts
reach my tiny ears
La da da da
da da da
La da
da da da
La da
da da da

Starguise

I reached my hand but it wouldn't fit inside
If anyone found out I probably would have died
Because it's just that awful

chorus:
Sit down, sit down over there
I can't see the moon
Whistle a kind of tune above
(among)
the tablets and the tearsheet turners
My rocket's almost ready
and my rocket chart should be here pretty soon

A little voice came down to me
I guess from outer space
He smelled like vertiver when everybody smelled like mace
He helped me find some work but said I'd never see his face
Because it's just that ugly

chorus

I saw a comet and I knew the King had died
I never saw him, but I never really tried
I had to laugh out loud, I turned my face to hide
Because it's just that sad

chorus
I'm lost in outer space and I can't see the moon
But my rocket charge should be here pretty soon
I'm feelin' lost in space, and like I said
I still can't see the moon
Aw, but my rocket chart should be here pretty soon

Captain Mysterioso

Hey watch me go
Mysterio
I've got your name here in my hand
Let's have a dance strike up the band

Those silvertones
are in my bones
and while we're circling here so slow
tell me your name I've got to know
Mysterio

I'm watching you
You know I do
and you were walking there tonight
before you vanished from our sight

and there you are
at least so far
and though you've never told me yet
we're not as close as we might get
Mysterioso

I don't know why
you think you'll die
if anybody knows your face
or has a name that they can place

Here comes the flood
It's thick as blood
and though I don't know who you are
it seems they're calling from afar
Mysterioso

There's only so many things that I can ask you
and there's always many less than you and I could ever do
I see some patterns stencilled on the corners of your heart
But all I can make out
is the lonely letter Q

And now the lights
are far too bright
and though you haven't noticed yet
the floor is warped and getting wet

The eyes I see
stare back at me
The music's twisting in my ear
and now I know the things you fear

There's only so many things that I can ask you
and there's always many less than you and I could ever do
I see some patterns stencilled on the corners of your heart
But all I can make out
is the lonely letter Q

Undergrads

I remember Lynn and Scot and Lynn and John and Scot and Jen and now they're gone
They're goin' down together

John just lived a block or two away
Katie lived a couple floors below
Shannon lived way up there in Wisconsin
drinkin' milk and vodka through a straw
And she drank all night
and she sang

Sha la na na na na na na la na na
Katie was her name
Sha la na na na na na na la na na
Shannon was her name
Sha la na na na na na na la na na
Her name was John and now they're gone
They're goin' down together

Jen and Scot were mindin' their own business
John and I sat down to have a coke
Shannon changed her name to Chauncey Steinberg
And Katie taught me how to have a smoke
And we dragged all night
and we sang

Sha la na na na na na na la na na
Katie was her name
Sha la na na na na na na la na na
Shannon was her name
(now it's Chauncey!)
Sha la na na na na na na la na na
Her name was John and now they're gone
They're goin' down together

Lynn and John were mindin' their own business
Scot and Jenn both thought that it was wrong
Shannon thought that Lynn was pretty gutsy
and Katie had seen through me all along
And we danced all night
and we sang

Sha la na na na na na na la na na
Katie was her name
Sha la na na na na na na la na na
Shannon was her name
(Changed it back now!)
Sha la na na na na na na la na na
Her name was John and now they're gone
They're goin' down together

Sha la na na na na na na la na na
Sha la na na na na na na la na na
Sha la na na na na na na la na na
Sha na la na na na na

C.J. Thomas

I went to see the mountains of Nebraska in the spring
and I learned to tell the meaning of the truth.
I climbed the lofty mountain heights and I saw everything
but most of all I saw that I could help ya through

I touched the salty sweetness of the oceans in the North
on a journey back to my forgotten past.
I searched my soul and searched my heart but I knew not what for
then in a mirror I found myself at last.

Life is running through me
like water on the hill
I'll take you there and I'll show you
You can know me if you will
Karl!

Life is running through me
like water on the hill
I'll take you there and I'll show you
You can know me if you will

I'd take you in my arms and hold you close if you were here
and I'd take away your anger and your fear.
Oh I know you're sensitive about these things and so am I
but still we've got to ask ourselves the reasons why
why
Life is running through me
like water on the hill
I'll take you there and I'll show you
You can know me if you will
You can know me if you will

and if that Punkin' Pie don't taste
Mama's gonna buy you come nuclear waste
and if that nuclear waste don't glow
Mama's gonna buy you some acid snow
and if that acid snow don't burn
Mama's gonna buy you a Grecian urn
and if that Grecian urn don't ash
Mama's gonna buy you a Johnny Cash
and if that Johnny Cash don't sing
Mama's gonna buy you a

Buffalo Bill's Grave (not The Prequel to "Tschellozon, the Moon!")

Climbed all day he did
Met a man at the top he did
Where are you goin' he asked him he did
And the man at the top said

Buffalo Bill was a very old man when he moved to a hole in the ground
And I'll never find the house that he lives in now
though I search 'til tomorrow no I never have found
The hole in the ground that he lives in now

I told him if you're going down the road too fast
You better go now while the exits last
Two hundred fifty-four is all a guy has
so if you wanna go now it's your very
last chance

He gave a little wink up at the floater wire
Said he couldn't make it he was just too tired
Buffalo Bill took his belly off the fire
and he asked me what a trip to Billy's grave required

I took him by the hand, he was lighter than dust
I told him I was one of all the ones he could trust
Found the fella's car it was covered in rust
But the fella kept a-smilin' 'til I thought he might bust

Jabba, Jabba, Jabop, Bop Ba
Jabba, Jabba, Jabop Ba
Jabba, Jabba, Jabop, Bop Ba
Jabba, Jabba, Jabop Ba

So we spent two hundred fifty-four days in his car
Rollin' down the barbers (bankers) and cementin' the tar
Told him where we were and then he laughed pretty hard
He said I never ever thought that I would make it
this far
because

Buffalo Bill was a very old man when he moved to a hole in the ground
And I'll never find the house that he lives in now
though I search 'til tomorrow no I never have found
The hole in the ground that he lives in now

We navigated out ourselves a mountainous route
When we made it to the graveyard then his car petered out
I was gonna ask him what the gig was about
when he did a little dance and he gave up a shout

And then his heart stopped cold in his breast
and though his soul was only a guest
I laid him on the ground and I beat on his chest
but he never came back
and maybe that's best
because

Buffalo Bill was a very old man when he moved to a hole in the ground
And I'll never find the house that he lives in now
though I search 'til tomorrow no I never have found
The hole in the ground that he lives in now

Jabba, Jabba, Jabop, Bop Ba
Jabba, Jabba, Jabop Ba
Jabba, Jabba, Jabop, Bop Ba
Jabba, Jabba, Jabop Ba
Jabba, Jabba, Jabop, Bop Ba
Jabba, Jabba, Jabop Ba
Jabba, Jabba, Jabop, Bop Ba
Jabba, Jabba, Jabop Ba

I in the Sky

Often, when artists include songs they did not themselves write on a CD, they do not include the lyrics to these "cover" songs in the album packaging nor do they post them on the accompanying website. If the lyrics are indeed so printed or so posted, they are usually accompanied by a note that begins "lyrics reprinted by permission of". While we pursued and in fact, to the best of our knowledge, acquired the right to record and subsequently release our recording of this Steve Zuckerman composition, an approximately thirty year old Sesame Street hit, we did not pursue the right to reprint the lyrics anywhere. We found out that to record and release our version of I in the Sky on our initial run of 100 CDs, we didn't actually have to pay anyone anything. We are less certain about the publishing of the lyrics on the web and have thus left them off of our website currently. We're sorry for any inconveniece this may have caused. However, the all-English-language lyrics are easily discernible on the relatively simple, straightforward recording and may be transcribed by hand or by mechanical means by the listener, for his or her personal use only, without penalty, again only to the best of our knowledge.

The Children

The sun was burning brightly like it never had before
I found a thing I thought I'd need and wondered what it was for
I watched the children playing and they flew up in the air
There was music comin' down on me but I couldn't tell from where

We were always lonely 'til we learned to be alone
And now the children are only comin' home

I saw so many people
like bein' in a dream
all in their silent spaceships
callin' out to me
I was writing myself a letter
but I didn't have nothin' to say
so I took my time and wandered off
across the milky way

We were always lonely 'til we learned to be alone
And now the children are only comin' home

We were always lonely 'til we learned to be alone
(Hey, learn to be alone!)
And now the children are only comin' home

We were always lonely 'til we learned to be alone
(Hey, learn to be alone!)
And now the children are only comin' home

Zippostale

Zippo runs around the block
I stay inside and lock my lock
He is outside I am in
and neither one of us can win

Zippo took me out to lunch
I had to pay but I ate free
I don't like him very much
'cause Zippo looks a lot like me

Zippo, nada y nada
You know you gotta
have some faith in me
Zippo, ho, nadie nunca
Take a breath, take a dive, and we'll see if we don't come out alive

Hey bop ba, etc.

Ese no sacetramos
Veinte besamos la mucha ti sere
Y estoy no sebando la misenere
por done estavo

Zippo's just another word for somethin' I could never see
I wish I could turn him in but the fire didn't set him free

Zippo, nada y nada
You know you gotta
have some faith in me
Zippo, ho, nadie nunca
Take a breath, take a dive, and we'll see if we don't come out alive

Hey bop ba, etc.

Ese no sacetramos
Veinte besamos la mucha ti sere
Y estoy no sebando la misenere
por done estavo
por done estavo
por done estavo

Velvets

If the velvets were at stonehenge would they still play rock and roll?
Could I build myself a mountain if I just became a mole?
If you answer all these questions are you lucky or just wise?
Would you step up to the counter please?
I'd like to kiss you right between the eyes

So we'll go down to the river
or maybe you call it the crick
We can go swimmin' as long as it's warm,
but it isn't warm long so you better come quick

Can you find your way from Kansas?
Is the map I drew alright?
Should I still assume you're coming?
I'm expecting you tonight
I haven't been so nervous since I went around the bend
When I set the dinner plates tonight,
should I only set the table at one end?

So we'll go down to the river
paddle around in the crick
We can go swimmin' as long as it's warm,
but it isn't warm long so you better come quick

I often wonder what's inside
the tunnel of your brain
Is it in between a metaphor
or somethin' like a train?
Can I step on board and see the light at the dark end of your soul?
Would you step up to the boiler please?
I'm worried that we're running out of Cole

So we'll go down to the river
kiss ya goodbye the crick
We can go swimmin' as long as it's warm,
but it isn't warm long so you better come quick

Well it's cool here at sundown
when the wind runs up the sky
and the crickets dance the tango
and the little foxes cry
Do the northern pinewoods sing to you in the midnight of the day?
Do they beckon you inside or are the dusty Kansas crossroads in your way?

Hey
Love is coming through the forest
Love is whistling through the trees
Love is coming down the river
Love is washing over me
yeah yeah
La da da da da da da

Love is whispering through the wires
Love is in the DSP
Love is shooting down the laser
Love is coming right from me
yeah yeah
La da da da da da da
Whoo whoo

Doc's Kids Suite

The doctor's children all have left
They've gone their separate ways
and now I'm feeling bored and stripped
of all my yesterdays

The Jivers split they could not stand
to be all in one room
and Hermingham
and Cunningson
will meet their separate dooms

I don't know if I can do it
(He don't know!)
I don't know if I can say
(He don't know!)
I don't know if I can do it
But baby if I do it you know it's just the same old me anyway
Doo wop bop shoo bop
Doo wop shoop bah
Doo wop bop shoo bop

The little children laugh and try
to put us in our place
The awful truth is dawning clear
It stares us in the face

We rode into town on fumes
We'll be walkin' out 'cause the money is tight
and I'm prayin' for a pair of shoes
'cause we got another couple hundred miles to go
tonight anyways
Doo wop bop shoo bop
Doo wop shoop bah
Doo wop bop shoo bop

The walking fish is walking still
The road goes ever on
but if we're ever caught and dried
still do this when we're gone

I don't know if I can do it
(He don't know!)
I don't know if I can say
(He don't know!)
I don't know if I can do it
But baby if I do it you know it's just the same old me anyway
Doo wop bop shoo bop
Doo wop shoop bah
Doo wop bop shoo bop
Baby if I do it you know it's just the same old me anyway
It's just the same old me
(It's just the same old him)
It's just the same old me
(It's just the same old hymn)
It's just the same old me
oh my
(say mold, say mold)
oh why
am I
so shy

Gonna take you on a little ride
Gonna take you far outside your mind

Gonna take you on a little trip
on that magic sailin' ship of mine

Yes my walkin' shoes are very old
But they're made of solid gold so they shine
yes they shine
Do you think anything can shine?

take it Memphis

Gonna play a little trick or treat
find some food to taste and eat
Yummy! in my tummy.

Gonna walk right down the sidewalk
With a bottle of beer and one of pop
behind my back
hide from you
